Our Story

Fifteen years ago, we created our first resin jewellery piece and gave it to our brother-in-law, who still wears it proudly today. We craft our art from home by a husband-and-wife team.

Richard, a skilled wood carver trained by his father, shapes each piece with care, while I focus on the design. What began as a hobby has grown into a community of around 2,500 members on our Facebook page.

Our concept is inspired by the taonga our people cherished in the past, including whale bone and greenstone. As these materials are expensive, we chose to create sperm whale tooth designs and the most precious of all, the Tiki, for our sons who perform, and for our nieces and nephews.

We are proud to see many kapa haka groups wearing our taonga on the Matatini stage. We also provide taonga to Kohanga Reo and Kura Kaupapa schools.

What sets our taonga apart is our unique style and affordability. All pieces are sent via Track and Trace with a signature required at the Post Shop. We have also shipped many packages to Australia.

Our Craft

At Maori Treasures/Taonga Whiri Resin, every piece is made with care, respect, and a nod to the traditions of our people. Richard carves each design from wood, a skill passed down by his father, before making a mould and casting it in resin with hardener and colour.

Each piece is then carefully finished, with whiri bindings plaited by hand, paua toggles, and paua eyes in the Tiki. The result is taonga that are both beautiful and meaningful, ready to be worn or gifted.

Our Inspiration

We draw inspiration from the taonga that our people treasured in the past. Whale bone, greenstone, and traditional Tiki hold deep cultural significance.

While these materials are rare and costly, we honour that heritage through our resin creations. Every piece tells a story and carries a connection to our culture, our whānau, and our people.

Our Community

Our taonga are worn with pride by kapa haka groups on the Matatini stage and treasured by Kohanga Reo and Kura Kaupapa schools.

We love seeing our pieces become part of performances, celebrations, and everyday life. Our Facebook community of 2,500 members is a place for sharing stories, inspiration, and the joy of handmade taonga.

Our Promise

Every piece we create is made with heart, care, and respect for the traditions we love. We hope each taonga you wear connects you to the stories, strength, and spirit of our culture, as it does for our whānau.
